“Animals" is an essay on yearning, this foehn-induced feeling of uneasiness, of being, at once, at the mercy of and in accord with the thawing of the snow. In it, animals play a role as well. Why? Because they’re immune to the pangs of longing. They’re lived by life - without forewarnings. We can’t be like them, and we know why: yearning is a gentle poison. Whoever doesn’t shed his skin feels nothing. Whoever wants to save his skin had better dress warm! Whoever abandons hope has failed to understand anything. Yearning has no aim. It persists, progressively unfolding.”

First off, the instrumentation dispenses with all references to Americana. Piano, Spanish horns and analog soundscapes are the leading tonal protagonists. The spectrum of string instruments ranges from violin to bouzouki.

Again, the new album was produced by Charlie Brocco and Ken Coomer, who also played drums. The 11 songs were recorded in November 2008 at Westwood Studio in Nashville, TN. One thing’s for sure: rarely has an album recorded in Nashville sounded “more European.”

"Das neue Album "11 songs (animals)" ist ein Versuch über die Sehnsucht. dieses föhnige Gefühl der Unruhe, ausgesetzt und gleichzeitig einverstanden sein mit der Schneeschmelze. Auch Tiere kommen darin vor. Warum? Weil sie immun sind gegen die Sehnsucht. Das Leben lebt sie – ohne Vorwarnungen. Wir können nicht sein wie sie, aber wir wissen warum: die Sehnsucht ist ein zartes Gift. Wer sein Fell nicht ablegt, wird nichts spüren. Wer seine Haut retten will, soll sich warm anziehen. Wer die Hoffnung aufgibt, hat nichts verstanden. Sehnsucht hat kein Ziel. Sie macht weiter."

Die Instrumentierung legt erstmals alle Americana-Bezüge ab. Piano, Spanische Bläser und analoge Soundscapes prägen den Klang. Das Spektrum der Saiteninstrumente reicht von der Violine bis zur Bouzouki. Produziert haben das neue Album wiederum Charlie Brocco und Ken Coomer, der auch Schlagzeug spielt. Aufgenommen wurden die 11 Songs im November 2008 im Westwood Studio in Nashville, TN. Sicher ist: Selten klang ein in Nashville aufgenommenes Album "europäischer" als "11 songs (animals)".
